*CONTEMPLATIVE END-OF-LIFE CARE PROGRAM

Launching Canada's first Contemplative End-of-Life Care Training Program

2010 Enrollment

Leading the way in this evolving, revolutionary approach to end-of-life care is
Dr. Michele Chaban, a leading authority and innovator in this field.

Death, for many, is the most profound moment of human existence.

The Institute of Traditional Medicine's 'Contemplative End-of-Life Care Program' was developed as part of a larger effort to improve end-of-life care in Canada and beyond. Over the years, this initiative has brought remarkable teachers and teachings to our institute, (First Nations, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tibetan Buddhist, Hindu, Psychotherapists and others) representing diverse perspectives and insights into care of the dying. At ITM, we are committed to our role as a leader in a revolutionary development of human awareness that is transforming how we live, die and relate to others. Our objective is to make dying, a process that is deeply meaningful for the individual dying, and the community supporting them.

This one year training program introduces a contemplative approach to end-of-life care through educating and enhancing trainees' fluency in the bio-psycho-social-spiritual, legal and medical dimensions of care of the dying. The contemplative context addresses the needs of the whole person and her/his communities while providing the practical knowledge and skills that are required to serve as midwives to the dying.

Through this groundbreaking program students will learn from a group of diverse and highly trained professionals, including pioneers in the field of grief and bereavement counseling, thanatology, and leaders who will share the wisdom of Buddhist, First Nations and other traditional perspectives on the compassionate care of the dying.

Training will take place at the institute in downtown Toronto. Clinical internship & practicuums will be arranged at selected hospices and palliative care facilities in the GTA, surrounding areas, and associate facilities in a variety of facilities in North America. Students will have an opportunity to practice through supervised placements.

For details and to receive a full program catalog, please email the institute.
